Getting Started

1. What is Macromate?
Macromate is a nutrition and macro-tracking app that helps you monitor your food intake, calories and macronutrients, keeping you aligned with your health or fitness goals. It works whether you are aiming to lose weight, build muscle, or simply eat more balanced meals.

2. Do I need to be on a strict diet to use Macromate?
No. Many people use the app simply to gain awareness of what they are eating. You can log every gram if you wish, or just check in occasionally to stay mindful.

3. How do I set up the app for the first time?
You will be guided through a short set-up where you enter your weight, height, age, gender, activity level and goals. Macromate will then calculate your recommended calorie and macro targets. You can either use these or adjust them to suit your needs.

4. Can I change my goals later?
Yes. You can update your goals at any time—whether that means adjusting calorie intake, setting a new weight target, or modifying your protein, carbohydrate and fat ratios.

Food Logging

5. How do I log food?
You can:

  • Search the food database

  • Scan a barcode

  • Add custom foods

  • Save your own recipes

  • Use “Quick Add” if you would prefer to enter calories or macros directly

6. Is the food database accurate?
Most values are taken from verified sources, but some come from user submissions. Packaging and recipes can differ, so you can edit entries or create your own foods for complete accuracy.

7. Can I log homemade meals?
Yes. You can enter all the ingredients into a recipe, and Macromate will calculate the nutrition for you. You can then save and log it as a single meal whenever you eat it.

8. What if I eat the same meals every day?
You can save frequent meals as “favourites” or “meal sets”, allowing you to log them quickly.

9. Can I log restaurant food?
Yes. Many restaurant items are already in the database. For smaller or independent places, you can either estimate using a similar dish or add it manually.

24. Can I permanently delete my data?
Yes. Go to Settings > Privacy > Delete Account. This will erase all of your data permanently.

Troubleshooting

25. Why isn’t my fitness tracker syncing?
Check that permissions are enabled in both Macromate and your device settings. If it still doesn’t sync, disconnect and reconnect the integration.

26. Why do food entries sometimes look different from the packaging?
Food databases often contain averages. If you need precise tracking, always double-check your labels. You can also edit entries to match your products.

27. Why does the app feel slow?
Ensure you have the latest version installed. Closing background apps or restarting your device usually helps. If the issue continues, contact support.

28. Can I log foods in grams instead of cups or spoons?
Yes. You can change measurement units in the app. Most foods support both weight (grams/ounces) and volume (cups/spoons).

29. Can I track more than one person with a single account?
No. Macromate is designed for one user per account. For families, each person should create their own profile.

Tips & Best Practices

30. Do I need a food scale?
Not necessarily, but it can improve accuracy—particularly if you are on a strict plan. Over time you will become better at estimating portions.

31. How accurate do I need to be?
It depends on your goal. For fat loss or competition preparation, accuracy matters more. For general health, consistency is more important than logging every gram.

32. What if I forget to log a meal?
You can always go back and add meals later, even for previous days.

33. Can I pre-log meals?
Yes. Many users plan their day in advance by logging meals ahead of time, then making adjustments as needed.

34. How often should I weigh myself?
That’s up to you. Daily weigh-ins provide more data, but weekly or fortnightly works well for most people. Macromate’s charts smooth out natural fluctuations.

Support & Community

35. How do I contact support?
You can email support@macromate.com or use Settings > Help & Support in the app. We usually respond within 24–48 hours.

36. Is there a community for Macromate users?
Yes. We host an online community where users share recipes, tips and progress. You can also follow us on social media for updates and motivation.

37. Can I suggest new features?
Of course. We welcome feedback. You can send your ideas via the in-app support form or email, and our team will review them.

Advanced Tracking

38. Can I set custom macro splits (e.g. 40/30/30)?
Yes. If you prefer a specific split, you can override the automatically generated targets and set your own percentages or gram values.

39. Can Macromate handle intermittent fasting?
Yes. While the app doesn’t enforce fasting windows, you can log meals only during your eating period and track progress manually. A fasting timer feature is being considered for future updates.

40. Does the app support different diet types (keto, vegan, paleo, etc.)?
Yes. You can adjust your macro targets to suit your preferred diet. Many foods in the database are also tagged as vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free, making them easier to find.

41. Can I track micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals?
Yes, with Premium. You’ll be able to view information such as sodium, potassium, calcium, iron and more.

42. Can I plan meals in advance?

Yes. You can pre-log meals for the following day or even for the week, which is especially useful if you meal prep.

Personalisation

43. Can Macromate adjust my calorie targets as I lose weight?
Yes. You can enable auto-adjust, which will automatically recalculate your calorie needs as your weight changes. You can also update your goals manually at any time.

44. Can I have multiple goal modes (e.g. cutting and bulking)?
At present, you can only have one active goal at a time, but you can switch between goals whenever you wish. A “goal cycle” feature is planned for the future.

45. Does Macromate recommend foods to eat?
Macromate doesn’t prescribe specific diets, but it may suggest foods when you’re under or over on certain macros. For example, if you’re low on protein, the app might suggest high-protein foods from the database.

Social & Sharing

46. Can I share my progress with friends or a coach?
Yes. You can export your data as a CSV file or share screenshots of your progress directly from the app. A dedicated coach-sharing feature is currently in development.

47. Can I use the same account across multiple devices?
Yes. As long as you log in with the same account, your data will sync automatically between devices.

48. Is there a way to compete with friends?
Not yet. However, we are exploring features such as group challenges and leaderboards for future updates.

Premium & Billing

49. Can I try Premium before paying?
Yes. New users are often given a free trial of Premium so you can decide whether it’s right for you.

50. Do you offer student or military discounts?
Not currently. At present, discounts are only available through app store promotions, although this may change in future.

51. What happens if my payment fails?
Your Premium access will pause until your payment method is updated. Your data will not be lost—you will simply revert to the free version.

Technical

52. Does Macromate work on tablets?
Yes. The app is optimised for both phones and tablets.

53. Is there a desktop version?
Not at the moment, although a web dashboard is being developed.

54. Can I change the app’s language or measurement units?
Yes. You can switch between metric (grams, kilograms) and imperial (ounces, pounds). The language is set by your device’s settings.

55. Does the app drain my phone battery?
No. Macromate is lightweight and designed to run efficiently in the background.

56. Can I back up my data?
Yes. Your data is automatically backed up to the cloud whenever you are online.

Miscellaneous

57. Who is Macromate for?
Macromate is for anyone—athletes, gym-goers, busy professionals, or simply people who want to be more aware of their nutrition. You don’t need to be on a strict diet to benefit.

58. Can children or teenagers use Macromate?
Yes, but with adult supervision. Nutritional requirements are different for younger users, so we recommend using the app as an educational tool rather than for strict dieting.

59. Is Macromate available worldwide?
Yes. The database includes foods from around the world, though coverage is stronger in some regions than others. You can always add your own foods manually.

60. Does Macromate provide coaching or meal plans?
Not directly. Macromate is primarily a tracking tool. However, we do work with qualified nutrition coaches who may provide resources through the app.
